The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially revised air cargo handling charges across all airports in the country, marking the first hike in rates in over five years.

According to an official notification issued early Wednesday morning, the new tariff structure came into effect on July 1, 2025.

Key Increases in Cargo Charges:

  • Pet Birds: Charges surged by 50%, rising from Rs200 to Rs300 per kilogram.
  • Betel Leaves (Paan): A common export item, now costs Rs70/kg, up from Rs35/kg — a 100% increase.
  • General Cargo: Fees increased by 25%, going from Rs100 to Rs125 per kilogram.

The updated rate list also includes new charges for other live animals such as cats and dogs, along with a broad category for miscellaneous general cargo items.

Authorities say the adjustment reflects rising operational costs and aligns Pakistan’s air cargo rates with regional standards.
